Mechanical Anchor General Introduction
Drilling and anchoring products have been the
mainstay of the powers product line. The company now
known as powers Fasteners, Inc. was originally
founded as the Rawlplug Company in 1921. In those
early days, the original Rawlplug jute fiber anchor
quickly became the industry favorite for
applications in the electrical trade. As building
technology changed, the product offering was
expanded. During the first half of this century,
masonry block and brick anchors were manufactured
from lead, zamac or similar alloys which tend
to function better in these base materials. As
concrete construction became more prevalent, steel
anchors which achieved higher load capacities were
developed. Over time, the use of drilled-in anchors
for medium to heavy duty applications became
commonly accepted.
In the
1970's, wedge, sleeve and bolt style anchors for
threaded rod became prevalent. Adhesive systems
became popular in the late 1980's and their use
continues to grow for most high load applications. |
