Threading Capabilities — Cut & Roll
Threading is at the core of what Valley Nut & Bolt does — it's in our name and in our DNA. Our threading department handles both of the primary thread-forming methods, giving us the ability to match the right process to each application:
Cut threading removes material to form the thread profile. It is used for a wide range of materials and applications, particularly where thread strength specifications, material hardness, or non-standard thread forms require a machined approach. Our cut threading machines handle standard and specialty thread forms in inch and metric sizes across a broad size range.
Roll threading displaces material rather than cutting it, forming the thread by cold working the surface. The result is a stronger thread with better fatigue resistance and a smoother finish than cut threads of the same nominal dimension. Roll threading is the preferred method for production fastener work, anchor bolts, all-thread rod, and any application where thread strength and surface integrity are critical.
Our threading capability is directly integrated with our fastener manufacturing and custom bolt production — giving us a complete in-house solution from raw bar stock through finished, threaded, galvanized fastener.
CNC Machining — Growing Department, Production-Ready
Our CNC machining department is an actively growing part of the Valley Nut & Bolt operation. We have invested in horizontal machining centers and 3-axis vertical machining centers specifically to serve customers who need precision, repeatability, and scalability that only CNC equipment can deliver.
Precision turned parts with tight tolerances. Suitable for shafts, bushings, spacers, pins, threaded components, and complex turned geometries. CNC turning allows us to hold dimensions that manual lathes simply cannot match consistently across a production run.
Horizontal spindle orientation allows gravity to clear chips and enables multi-face part access, making HMCs ideal for complex box-type parts, housings, manifolds, and components requiring machined features on multiple faces without re-fixturing.
Our VMCs handle prismatic parts requiring flat surfaces, pockets, slots, holes, tapped features, and contoured profiles. 3-axis CNC milling is the workhorse of modern part production — from single prototypes to OEM runs.
Manual Machining — Established Capability, Skilled Operators
Our manual machining capability is not a legacy holdover — it is a deliberate and valuable part of our service offering. Many of the best machining applications are still best handled manually: one-off repairs, legacy part replication, prototype development, and jobs where setup time on a CNC machine would exceed the actual machining time.
The Bridgeport-style vertical knee mill is the standard of manual machining. Our operators use them for precision flat work, drilling and tapping, custom fixture work, and jobs that don't warrant a CNC program.
Horizontal mills are the right tool for face milling, slotting, gang milling operations, and a range of production work that benefits from the horizontal spindle orientation.
Manual engine lathes are our go-to for turned parts that need an experienced operator's touch — one-off shafts, repair work, threading custom parts, and jobs where setup flexibility matters more than automation.
There is no job too small. If you need one part by the end of the week, our manual department can likely turn it around faster than any CNC shop in the region.
Production Range — One-Off to OEM
Valley Nut & Bolt is structured to serve the full production spectrum. We do not have a minimum order quantity, and we do not deprioritize small jobs in favor of large ones. Our mixed manual and CNC capability means we always have the right machine — and the right setup economics — for your volume.
One-Off & Prototype Parts
Single parts. Repair parts. Prototype components. Emergency replacements. These jobs are often the hardest to get done quickly, and they are exactly what our manual department is built for. Bring us a drawing, a sample, or a description and we'll get it made.
Short-Run & Custom Production
Custom parts in quantities from a handful to a few hundred. This is the sweet spot for many of our industrial customers — enough volume to justify a CNC program, not enough to interest a high-volume production shop. This is where Valley Nut & Bolt competes every day.
